WoFF Goes Online: Weekly Film Events

Welcome to WoFF Online!

To keep you company in these gloomy times, we are putting together a weekly list of films on our new Vimeo channel ‘WoFF Weekly Online Event’. Independent short and feature films will be available and you can watch them as many times as you like during the week. Please send us your feedback and comments on social media, we would love to know what you like every time so we can bring you more of that in the coming weeks.

In these challenging times for all, let’s watch together some amazing new films from all over the world and help keep the spirit of independent filmmaking and festivals alive in our homes throughout the next few weeks.

We do not ask for tickets or set price to access the films, but we have created a donation button, allowing you to donate anything you can spare, which we will then collect and re-donate to local charities and voluntary organisations that are working hard during the outbreak to keep everyone safe. Additionally, Citizen Ticket donates a portion of their fee for the reforestation of areas in the Scottish Highlands.

Of course for those of you who find it difficult to donate, we understand completely, you don’t have to. Drop us a message on Facebook, Instagram or a quick line on info@woffglasgow.com and we will forward you a link to our channel.

Special thanks to all the filmmakers, distributors and partners who have generously jumped in to help us bring this content to you every week!

Films Of The Week

ANNA | Directed by Dekel Berenson | 2019 | 15′ | Ukraine | Anna, a middle-aged single mother, lives in a small industrial town in war-torn Eastern Ukraine. She works in a meat processing plant, lives in a rundown apartment and dreams for a better life for herself and her 16-year-old daughter. Desperate for a change, she is lured by a radio advertisement to attend a party organised for foreign men who are touring the country, searching for love.

Stolen by Dean Marriott | Germany | 2018 | Inspired by the Stolen Babies Scandal which took place in Spain during the Franco era, this bilingual German-Spanish short film brings ethics, religion, language and the exploitation of vulnerable women into question.

A Gude Cause Makes a Strong Erm – the story of the Orcadian Woman’s Suffrage Society by Martin Laird | UK | 2019 | Campaigning for women to have the right to vote took place from the latter half of the 19th Century up to the start of the First World War. Orcadian suffragists were part of that activism.

Buzzard by Joy Webster | Canada | 2019 |A man on the brink of suicide is interrupted by a teenage girl involved in a door-to-door water heater scam.

Are you listening, mother? by Tuna Kaptan | Germany / Turkey | 2019 | A Turkish Village. A Kurdish woman is sentenced to six years house arrest. Her older son unwillingly becomes her prison guard. Torn between two authorities, his mother and the police, he is forced to confront his own boundaries.

Passage by Igor Coric | Serbia | 2019 | After our hero, a young boy, is left alone to die in the midst of war and destruction, the last members of his tribe are dismantled to basic geometric forms under enemy fire. Taken by the feeling of sorrow and loss, the boy builds a totem out of their remains. Armed with this new structure, he continues towards another confrontation, with an unexpected twist.

Entropia by Chris Tatsis | Greece | 2019 | On the day of his wife’s birthday, Lambros, an introvert man, welcomes relatives and friends to their home in the province for a festive meal. When his brother tells a story from their childhood years, shaming him in front of the attendees, the underlying tensions emerge leading to an outbreak of violence.

A message for James by Ariella Mastroianni & Ryan Sloan | US | 2019 | 17 min | Two estranged friends, Alice and Dani, meet in Ireland to deliver an unopened letter to a distant relative on the anniversary of the event that tore their friendship apart.
