WoFF 2018 Opening Film: A Balkan Noir

A Balkan Noir by Dražen Kuljanin will open WoFF 2018 on October 4 at Film City Glasgow. Dražen’s debut How To Stop A Wedding opened the festival in 2015.

The film is a co-production between Sweden and Montenegro. It is produced by Film Facility, in co-production with Galileo Production, Way Creative Films & Film in Skåne. The film is starring Dina Östrand & Johaness Bah Kuhnke.

Short Synopsis: It has been five years since Nina’s daughter went missing and only during the cigarette breaks do we get to follow her hunt for the perpetrator as she returns to Montenegro for one last time. A revenge told in 20 cigarettes.

About Dražen Kuljanin: Screenwriter and film director living in Sweden. Born in Bosnia in 1980 and discovered stories at an early age thanks to his grandfather who worked as a projectionist at the local cinema. 

Left Bosnia for Sweden in 1994 during the civil war and started making movies in his teens and continued doing so often without any crew. 

2010 he graduated in screenwriting from the Broby Grafiska college of cross media and started writing his first feature film mean while making numerous short films. 

‘How to Stop a Wedding’ is his directorial feature debut. The film won the best film in 1-2 competition at Warsaw Film Festival. The film was shot in five hour on a moving train from Malmoe to Stockholm in the middle of winter. “How to stop a wedding” opened in cinemas receiving excellent reviews from the press. A deal was done for a Turkish remake of the film and a English speaking version is in development.
